Introduction
Welcome to all our offer-holders! Our Post-offer Visit Day sessions in 2023 will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on 15 February, 21 March and 22 March. We hope your visit will be enjoyable and informative. This page tells you what you can expect during your time with us.
The Department of English Studies is situated in two buildings, one Georgian (Hallgarth House) and one modern (Elvet Riverside). Our Post-offer Visit Day sessions will take place in the Arnold Wolfendale Lecture Theatre, Calman Learning Centre (Room CLC013)
Schedule
After an introductory presentation from Professor John Nash, the Head of the Department, you will have an opportunity to sample some undergraduate teaching in the form of two mini-lectures or tutorials given by members of the Department. Each session will reflect a different specialism or period in English literature, ranging from medieval to the present day. These will be followed by a Q&A session.
You do not need to bring anything or read anything in advance, but since there will be opportunities to ask questions, you may wish to consider what you might like to know about studying English at Durham. The schedule of events is below. We look forward to meeting you!
1.30pm-1.45pm: Registration
1.45pm-2.30pm: Welcome Talk
2.30pm-3.15pm: Teaching Taster Session 1
3.15pm-4.00pm: Teaching Taster Session 2
4.00pm-4.30pm: Q&A
Although it is not possible to allow you to participate in the academic events, we would like to extend a warm welcome to all guests of offer-holders and invite you to explore the city and university while the sessions are running. You could take a literary walking tour using a podcast devised by Durham Book Festival in partnership with Durham University.
You are welcome to join us for the Q&A session.
