Join Durham University Orchestral Society Symphony Orchestra for an evening celebrating the hidden gems of English symphonic music in Durham Cathedral.
The evening begins with Ethel Smyth’s scintillating Overture to The Wreckers followed by the virtuosic Cello Concerto in D minor by C.V Stanford performed by soloist Richard Jenkinson. The symphony orchestra are also delighted to be able to perform C.V. Stanford’s Incidental Music written to Lord Tennyson’s play Becket, a piece not heard for over 100 years, thanks to the research of Professor Jeremy Dibble. The concert concludes with Samuel-Coleridge Taylor’s sublime Variations on an African Air.
