Summer Research Internships

This funding scheme provides opportunities for Durham University undergraduate students to gain hands-on research experience in our interdisciplinary laboratories. The bursary scheme is open to undergraduates entering the final year of their course from across the Science Faculty. It supports novel projects that are aligned to our interdisciplinary research approach. For more details about us and our research approach please visit:

Key Information

  • Open to undergraduate Students from Durham University entering the final year of their course.
  • Provides funding of £325 per week to support students undertaking projects 4-8 weeks duration.
  • Applications must have the approval of at least one Durham University member of staff as the proposed project supervisor.
  • The applicant and proposed supervisor(s) do not need to be members of the BSI but the project must be aligned to our approach.

Further Guidance

Allocation of funding is by competition. Applications will be assessed by the BSI Executive Committee against the criteria listed in the scheme details document BSISBPROG_22.

We advise contacting potential project supervisors prior to filling out the application form. Project supervisors will offer guidance and often input to the project proposal section of the application. We cannot accept applications which do have a confirmed supervisor.
