Professor Stefano Cracolici served as the Zurbarán Centre’s first director from 2017 to 2020.

Since October 2020 the Zurbarán Centre has been under the directorship of Professor Claudia Hopkins. The Centre is named after the Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664) whose series of paintings Jacob and his Twelve Sons have been at Auckland Castle for over 250 years.
