Before you arrive

  • Make sure that your Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England (or equivalent) are in place.
  • If you have children or a disability/disabilities make sure the extra support available to you is in place.
  • If your household income is less than £42,875 as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent) and you do not already hold an undergraduate degree you should be entitled to a Durham Grant of up to £2,000.  
  • We will start sending out Durham Grant emails in the week commencing 5 September, to your Durham University email address.

What you need to know in your first week

  • Your Maintenance Loan will not be paid into your bank account until you have completed the Durham University registration process.  
  • Once you do this we will “confirm your registration” to Student Finance England (or equivalent) and your first Maintenance Loan payment should be in your bank account 2-4 working days later.
  • Make sure you have enough money to tide you over until your first Maintenance Loan payment.
  • You will not need to pay for your College accommodation until 2 November 2022, or 1 December 2022 if you pay by direct debit which is the University’s preferred option.
