The Support We Offer

Fellowship Writing Groups

Our new Fellowship Writing Groups will give 5-6 early career researchers space to discuss Fellowship applications that they are developing. They will have access to:

  • High quality peer review
  • A forum for interdisciplinary peer-peer support.
  • Help to arrange specific training through DCAD, Research Innovation Services or external bodies.

Each group will connect regularly, either online or in person, for a period of 4 months and are expected to commit to producing a grant application by the end of the four months. The draft applications will then be reviewed by mock panels convened by the BSI based on the funding source being targeted.

Sign-up to take part in a Fellowship Writing Group by 29 March 2024: https://forms.office.com/e/qhfEW73pph

Fellowship Mentorship Matchmaking

Our Fellowship mentorship matchmaking programme aims to link people writing Fellowships with mentors who can help them to navigate this process.  After matching with a partner, the informal mentorship meetings will take place over a 6 month period, covering the Fellowship application process. Each pair will be given coffee vouchers for their mentorship sessions, which can be held in whichever format and frequency is most appropriate. At the end of the six-month period we will ask the pairs to complete a short anonymous form to track the impact of the mentorship.

BSI Writing Room

The BSI hosts weekly Writing Room sessions. These are open sessions where people working on interdisciplinary biosciences research can come to write in a peaceful setting away from the distractions of their office and laboratories. There will be tea, coffee and biscuits available and once per month there will be an information session on a specific topic.
