Raouf Boucekkine is Professor of Economics at Aix-Marseille School of Economics (Aix-Marseille University). He was professor at UCLouvain, 1998-2013, and at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, 1993-1998, among other appointments. He has been elected Fellow of the Econometric Society in 2020, and he is Honorary Senior Fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France, being nominated as a senior member in 2014. He has also served as president-elect then president of ASSET (Association of Southern-European Economic Theorists) from 2013 to 2017, and as the Europe-based coordinator of the world network of Institutes for Advanced Study, UBIAS, 2018-2020. 

Professor Boucekkine has been director of several institutions throughout Europe. He has been, among others, scientific director of Aix-Marseille School of Economics (2011-2015), co-director of the Center of Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE) at UCLouvain (2008-2010) and deputy chairman of the department of economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (1997-1998). Importantly enough, Professor Boucekkine has been active in the IAS environment for more than a decade. He has been director of the IAS at Aix-Marseille University, IMéRA (2015-2020), scientific and technical director of the French network of IASs, RFIEA (2016-2020), and he founded the Centre for Unframed Thinking, CUT, in 2022, the first IAS based in a business school. He also co-chaired the UBIAS Intercontinental Academy on Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence, 2020-2022.  

Professor Boucekkine’s main research areas range from economic growth theory and development to sustainability science through economic and mathematical demography and epidemiology, game theory and mathematical methods in social sciences, where he has extensively published. He has acted as Associate Editor in eight reputed journals including the Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Economic Theory, Macroeconomic Dynamics or Journal of Mathematical Economics. He has also published in several prestigious interdisciplinary journals for example Science Advances, Nonlinear Analysis and Population and Development Review. He is currently involved in several research projects for the study of strategic interactions in large populations (for example under unexpected global epidemic shocks). He will precisely work in this topic with Durham colleagues Dr Mauro Bambi and Dr Alpár Mészáros during his fellowship at Durham IAS in 2025.
