Join the Saturday Archaeological Illustration Club to develop your skills in archaeological illustration. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned illustrator, these sessions offer a chance to refine your technique, interact with real artefacts, and engage with the archaeology community in a relaxed, informal environment.

Bring history to life 
Join us for a series of hands-on workshops led by Mark Hoyle, a renowned archaeological illustrator. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, these sessions will help you master the skills behind professional archaeological drawings. Mark brings a wealth of expertise and will guide you through techniques used by professionals.

The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, there is no pressure to create a perfect drawing or attend every session. Just come along and enjoy the experience!

What to expect

  • Expert Guidance – Learn from Mark Hoyle (markhoyle.com)
  • Hands-On Practice – Illustrate real artefacts from the Museum of Archaeology collection
  • All Skill Levels Welcome – No experience needed
  • Materials Provided – Paper and pencils supplied (bring your own if preferred) and we a limited number of more specialise equipment, we will provide details at the first session of where to but these if this is a skill you want to develop further. 
  • Relaxed Atmosphere – No pressure, just creativity and fun

Important Information

  • Please arrive promptly at 11:00 AM for introductory instructions. You are welcome to drop in and out as needed and you do not have to stay for the full session.
  • Help us plan ahead by completing our short Microsoft Form so we can prepare enough artefacts for the session.
  • Cost: £5 per session (cash only)
  • Children aged 10+ welcome (must be accompanied by an adult
