Director of Undergraduate Programmes (Accounting) & Associate Professor (Accounting)

Yvonne Oakes is the Director of Undergraduate Programmes (Accounting) at Durham University and teaches Financial Reporting.

Prior to joining Durham University Business School, Yvonne was at Teesside University as Principal Lecturer Staffing and Resources within the Business School.

At Teesside University she taught on Financial Accounting & Reporting and Audit & Assurance modules as part of the Accounting and Finance BSc (Hons) degree, together with supporting the development of new courses. As part of her Principal Lecturer Staffing and Resources remit within the Business School at Teesside University, she oversaw and managed the staffing, resourcing, planning and work loading requirements of the Finance, Performance and Marketing department.

Since making her transition to academia, Yvonne has completed a Master’s in Accounting and Finance and Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

Prior to her academic career, Yvonne gained 15 years’ experience in commerce, practice and industry in the areas of financial/management reporting, auditing, project management and leadership at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Commerzbank London and RSM UK.

She is a qualified chartered accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Yvonne’s research interests encompass practice-relevant issues within the Financial Accounting & Reporting, Audit and Assurance and Corporate Governance landscape.

Externally, Yvonne is a panel examination member on the professional qualification board and committee member of the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants - Teesside branch.
