‘The Best Words in the Best Order’ - Poetry in Durham and the North East

19 November 2016 - 12 March 2017

History of the Book Gallery, Palace Green Library

Contemplating the story of poetry in the North East, this exhibition took an inspired look at the connections between poetry and life.

Originally shown at Woodhorn, this exhibition was influenced by the Northern Poetry Library and Palace Green Library collections. Located in Northumberland and Durham, the libraries are both important archives and living, breathing spaces that people can use and enjoy.

Beginning in 2015, six working poets spent time among the shelves of Northern Poetry Library, creating new poems inspired by the collection. They also took their love of the library outwards to communities across the region, where as poets-in-residence they led workshops that explored poetry and inspired people to write their own.
