Summary

We often take for granted what we observe in businesses and other organisational contexts, and we like to use simple models to explain what we experience in our daily work. But what if we stepped out of our comfort zone, and instead looked at organisational phenomena as exotic, arbitrary and strange? What would we learn if we tried to critically appraise the extant management knowledge as well as our own – and others’ – organisational practices? This ‘taster’ session for the Durham DBA module on Power, Control and Resistance in Organisations will provide you with an introduction to thinking about management and organisations in ways that often aren’t part of the management curriculum. Curious? Come along!
