On 26 October 2023, our Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O’Brien, visited Paris as Durham University continues to strengthen further its engagement with leading European institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor visited emlyon Business School’s Paris campus – one of Durham University Business School’s global strategic partners.

A global partnership that is delivering leadership and impact

Formalised by an MoU signed in December 2017, Durham University Business School’s strategic partnership with one of Europe’s most prestigious business schools, emlyon, dates back many years. As holders of the Triple Accreditation Status, Durham University Business School and emlyon business school launched in 2018 a joint programme – the Global DBA – a part-time executive doctoral programme which is helping to develop global leaders to confidently push the boundaries of business practice; present new ideas; and become transformational business leaders. There are currently 47 students enrolled on the Global DBA from 24 countries. The Global DBA students come from a variety of backgrounds, including banking, mining, sports analytics and the renewable energy sectors.

During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor and the President of emlyon, Professor. Isabelle Huault, discussed opportunities to build on the Global DBA to enhance further education and research cooperation, building on our world-class expertise.

Professor Karen O’Brien said: “I am delighted to visit emlyon business school to celebrate our innovative partnership. I am proud that through our collaboration with emlyon, our Global DBA Programme is developing global leaders and entrepreneurs to answer the most pressing needs of modern society and industry. We look forward to deepening our academic and research collaboration with this prestigious institute as Durham enhances further its engagement with Europe.”

Professor Isabelle Huault said:  “Strengthening our bonds in the United Kingdom and expanding our activities throughout Europe is one of emlyon business school’s main objectives. The collaboration with Durham University through the Global DBA Programme is a clear example of our commitment to cultivate a responsible entrepreneurial spirit, merging our school’s growing vocation to invite our students to expand their international horizons, hybridize to understand and engage to transform.”
