Biography

Charmele Ayadurai joined Durham University in October 2018 as a Teaching Fellow in Economics and Finance. At Durham, Charmele teaches Economics, Finance and Research methods modules.

Her teaching philosophy takes after JK Rowling’s Harry Potter “Watch out for the stairs, they’re always changing!”. Each classroom is different, and thus, she constantly thrive to learn new techniques and pedagogies to fit the ‘new classroom’. Charmele uses Trauma Informed Teaching Pedagogy in her lessons and applies learner centred teaching approaches to allow students to reflect on what they are learning and most importantly how they are learning it. As a module leader, Charmele integrates student learning styles, emotion, motivation and learning process in designing modules.

Charmele’s pedagogic research involves trauma, increase screen use and student concentration during Covid-19 and overall student learning and wellbeing.

Charmele brings into her classrooms, her industry experiences as a banker and security market dealer, her research on bank soundness and her main interest in student learning and wellbeing.
