Dzulfian Syafrian


Biography

Dzulfian Syafrian is an economist whose research covers a range of topics including: public policy, financial institutions, global business, and economic development. Since January 2016, Dzulfian has been undertaking his PhD at St. Chad’s College and Durham University Business School. He teaches Financial Modelling and Business Forecasting (Econometrics for Time Series Data) for master students at the school as a graduate teaching assistant.

Prior to his study at Durham University, Dzulfian worked as a researcher and teaching assistant in Indonesia for a few years. He has conducted various applied researches for private, public and international organisations, namely: the World Bank; Indonesian Minister of Finance; Indonesian Ministry of Industry; Indonesian Banks; and Indonesian and multinational companies. Dzulfian also taught economics at the University of Indonesia (2011-2013) and Prasetiya Mulya Business School (2012) as a teaching assistant.

Research topic/thesis title: The Impact of Japanese Inward Foreign Direct Investment on the North East of England-the Case of Supply Chain Management.

This research concentrates on the relationship between Japanese companies and indigenous British companies. The project aims to:

  • understand how the Japanese FDI and the process of “Japanisation” of Western companies works in Britain;
  • define what the effects of Japanese FDI are on the economy and society of the North East; and,
  • determine what challenges companies face and how they overcome these.
