In this session, Dr Simon Haslam explores the Strategic Management module. He looks at the subject of organisation strategy – how to create one and apply one.  The module draws on research and practice to provide an insight into relevant critical theories and also the pragmatics of managing a strategy.  It explores the role of organisational purpose as a guiding light for strategy and links this to external considerations (strategy as ‘outside in’) and internal qualities (strategy as ‘inside out’).  We cover diagnostic frameworks/tools capable for helping to craft evolutionary strategy as well as revolutionary strategy.  The module also looks at strategic decision making and how to tackle decision making bias.  We also covered contemporary approaches to strategy communication and implementation, including agile methods.

In addition to his University responsibilities, module leader Dr Simon Haslam works internationally as a strategy consultant and is programme lead for strategy at the Institute of Directors.
