Fun-Gate

Fun-Gate from afar

Fun-Gate (title for the giant mushrooms) was created as the gateway to our native woodland by local artist Graeme Hopper (who also created the Millennium Bug sculpture), in a project funded by ‘The Friends of the Garden’. It was officially opened in June 2019 by Sir Thomas Allen, then Chancellor of Durham University.  The giant metal fungi have been left ungalvanised to oxidise and blend in with the Autumn colours of the trees beyond them.
