A large group of business people discussing around a table

Durham University Business School has been awarded re-accreditation from Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in relation to our Human Resource Management (HRM) programme.

The CIPD is the professional body for Human Resources and people development in the UK, as recognised in the grant of its Royal Charter and has over 160,000 members in the UK and overseas. For over 100 years they have championed better work and working lives by improving practices in people and organisation development for the benefit of individuals, business, economies and societies.

What does this mean for our students studying the MSc Human Resource Management (HRM) programme?

The CIPD’s core belief is that good people management and development is not only good for individuals, but also crucial to the success of businesses and economies, which in turn can benefit people and society.

This fits perfectly into the School’s mission to develop and enthuse leaders and entrepreneurs who create, share and use knowledge to deliver equitable and sustainable futures around the world. Our vision is to lead business thought and practice to improve global wealth and well-being and our commitment to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education.

Membership of the CIPD is widely recognised as an important qualification in the HR profession both in the UK and abroad, and will be an important ‘stepping-stone’ in your Career.

Comments from the School

“CIPD accreditation offers students a lot of benefits. For example, students can access a wide range of CIPD research that includes up-to-date and historic surveys and policy reports on HRM issues. Students also receive the CIPD magazine, People Management, that deals with latest HR issues and gives an overview of the manyfold activities of CIPD. Students also have access to on-line business and HR journals as well as to case studies that help them understanding HR in practice. The information and resources offered by CIPD is so rich and covers, of course, latest information. In these turbulent times, this up-to-date information can be the key for students to step into the job as HR manager.”

Professor Bernd Brandl, Director of Research of Management and Marketing Department.

This five-year programme reaccreditation follows the recent five-year reaccreditation of the Business School and its programmes by international accrediting body EQUIS. In separate ways both confirm the international standing of the quality of the education provided by the School.
