Supporting Economically Inactive Social Housing Residents

Economically inactive residents are individuals in the working age who are not actively look for work. National, regional, and local governments employ various initiatives to encourage this group to join the workforce, with the idea that economic activity may lead to more secure and sustainable income, which will address the many challenges that economically inactive people face.

In this project, Durham researchers work with believe housing, a large social housing provider in the North East of England. Together, the team works out the challenges that people face to start thinking about work, accessing work (support), start working, and having meaningful, sustainable work. The team aims to develop solutions that can support not only believe housing in their support for economically inactive tenants, but also to provide solutions that local organisations and governments can take forward.
