Welcome to QSP

At Durham’s Quantitative Social Psychology (QSP) research group, we study the reciprocal relationship between the social world and individuals’ psychological processes.

Our core strengths lie in research on intergroup relations, health and well-being, workplaces and organisations, behavioural change, and fundamental cognitive, affective and motivational mechanisms in social applications. An emerging research strength is the psychology of environmental sustainability.

About Us

We employ a diverse array of research methods, including laboratory and field experiments, large-scale longitudinal studies, experience sampling and diary studies, psychophysiological, computational and meta-analytical techniques. Our commitment to expanding our methodological expertise is sustained by access to state-of-the-art research facilities and tools, such as virtual reality, EEG/ERP, fMRI, and TMS equipment.

Our work integrates theoretical advancements with practical solutions to real-world challenges. We collaborate with a wide range of partners, including industry leaders like Panasonic and NatWest, local and national government, the NHS, and intergovernmental bodies such as the European Commission and the United Nations.

Our research has been funded by peak funding bodies, including the UK Research Councils (ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC), the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the Leverhulme Trust, AFOSR and Nuffield Foundation, among others.
