As a Durham student, you'll find a wide support network available to you while studying at the University. Our aim is for you to feel well, comfortable, and able to get the best out of all aspects of your university experience.
Support Services
Colleges
There is a dedicated student support team within each College that are able to offer support on a range of issues.
Counselling Service
The Counselling Service is a team of trained and experienced practitioners to help you manage any difficulties that are impacting your successful engagement with your studies and with University life.
Disability Support
Disability Support offers advice and guidance to both prospective and current students within the University. We also arrange appropriate provision for disabled students, as well as offer support to those who think they may have a disability.
Healthcare and GP Services
At Durham University we take the health and well being of our students very seriously. Before you arrive in Durham, we encourage students to pre-register with a local GP practice in advance and ensure that their vaccinations are up to date.
Finance

Sexual Misconduct and Violence
We recognise that sexual misconduct and violence such as rape and harassment are matters of international concern. Through our Sexual Misconduct & Violence Operations Group, we are focused on making Durham a safer place to live, work and study.
Complaints and Conduct
The work of the Student Conduct Office covers student complaints, student discipline, allegations of student misconduct, and sexual misconduct and violence. Our Office works closely with Departments and Colleges across the University to offer advice on cases within our remit.
Immigration Support
We provide advice for international students looking to enter or extend their leave to remain in the UK to study. We also work with Departments across the University to ensure compliance with UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) regulations.
Drug & Alcohol Awareness
County Durham drug and alcohol recovery service is a confidential service that is here to support and help.
Student Wellbeing Programme
Our wellbeing classes run every week and consist of a range of exercise classes, specialist counselling and talking services and meditation. The student wellbeing programme consists of; Yoga, Pilates, High-Intensity Interval Classes, Abs Classes, Zumba and more!

Nursery Facilities
Our University Nursery in Durham caters for children from 6 weeks to school age. It is open from 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday throughout the year.
Informing Parents or External Partners
The University is aware of the current debate within the sector and in the media about student consent for their university to alert parents or carers where there are concerns about their health and wellbeing.
Health and Wellbeing Strategy
At Durham, we recognise that our staff and students are our greatest asset and we want to support the health and wellbeing of all. We have developed our first Health and Wellbeing Strategy, with the aim of creating a more responsible, attractive and productive place to work and study. This strategy has been developed through a direct partnership between the Student Support and Wellbeing Directorate, Human Resources and Organisation Development (HROD), Health and Safety Service and the Occupational Health Service.
