As we head into a new academic year, we’d like to take the opportunity to outline what you can expect from University Library and Collections and the services we have available.

Services and library access

  • You will have 22/7 access to Bill Bryson Library during term time (8am-6am, seven days a week), starting from Monday 4 October 2021.

  • From Monday 27 September, you won’t need to book a timeslot to browse the shelves or for individual study spaces for any of our sites. We will have a mixture of bookable and non-bookable individual study spaces available at Bill Bryson Library.

  • You can book a range of study rooms at Bill Bryson Library, including individual rooms, PGR/PG study spaces and Disability Support rooms. There will also be non-bookable group study spaces available at the Teaching and Learning Centre.

  • For students studying online and not currently living in a DH postcode, the free services we introduced during the pandemic will continue, including postal loans, postal returns and scan and deliver.

  • Our book drop facility for quick and easy returns will be available outside the entrance to the Bill Bryson Library.

Safety measures – what you need to know

We’ve updated our safety measures in line with University guidance and policies.

When you visit:

  • There are no social distancing requirements when you visit us. However, for the comfort and reassurance for staff and users, we ask that you are mindful of others and allow space between you and other users when in the building.

  • Please wear a face covering when moving around our buildings and study spaces or speaking to someone (unless you are exempt). Face coverings will also be required when you are seated in some study areas – make sure you follow the signage which will be clearly displayed.

  • There are no one-way systems in place, but we are asking everyone to keep to the left where possible when moving around the building.

  • Please use our handwashing facilities and hand sanitiser stations regularly during your visit.

  • Clean as you go – leave your desk clear and wipe down all desks, work areas and shared library equipment before and after use. Put all rubbish in the bins provided.

We are continuing to monitor the ventilation in our buildings to make sure air quality stays at a safe level, as well as carrying out additional cleaning during opening hours.

All services and procedures will be kept under review and revised in line with Government and University guidance.

Our Covid Marshals will be on hand to support our safety measures and to help you during your visit, and our friendly team at our Help and Information Desk will be able to answer any library queries. You can also contact our Virtual Enquiry Desk, Ask DULib either via email or 24/7 live chat.

We look forward to welcoming you!
