Following a review of casual working arrangements, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost and working in partnership with UCU, the University issued a joint statement with UCU in February 2020, which acknowledged our joint commitment to ensuring that all colleagues across the University are treated fairly, with appropriate and clearly defined terms and conditions and rates of pay.

As a result of the review, we have limited the use of casual contracts, with the preferred position now being to offer an employment contract, with University terms and conditions.  Colleagues who were on casual contracts when the review was concluded were, where appropriate, moved onto a University employment contract.

All roles are aligned to the University pay scales at the appropriate grade and employees receive any annual cost of living award. There is transparency over the calculation of workload and payments, along with the expectations of roles.

We continue to work alongside our recognised trade unions in this area.
