Human echolocators can better locate targets placed off to the side
A pioneering scientist from our Department of Psychology collaborating with researchers from University of Birmingham, Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands and World Access for the Blind, Placentia, USA have discovered for the first time that human echolocators have better acuity in localising a target placed 45° off to the side as compared to straight ahead at 0°.

Hillary Clinton visits our region
Members of the University were delighted to meet Hillary Clinton on a special visit to our region earlier this month. The ex-US Secretary of State was a speaker at the annual South Shields lecture, a free public event organised by former South Shields MP David Miliband, and sponsored by a number of partners, including Durham University.

Reduce Waste – Leave Durham Tidy – Support Charity. These are the three slogans of our annual ‘Green Move Out’ campaign, which now enters its 18th year. Under this award-winning scheme, students unwanted belongings are collected and donated to local charities at the end of the academic year, as they move out of their accommodation.
