Group of 5 students in front of University College steps

We have been celebrating the achievements of our students in the summer sunshine in 23 Congregation ceremonies.

Student procession heading toward the Cathedral, PhD students at the backAlmost 15,000 guests, relatives, and supporters joined 5,000 graduating students from all over the world as they graduated in Durham Cathedral, which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Students enjoyed processing to the Cathedral from Durham Castle in their graduation robes, posing for photos with friends, and reflecting on their achievements at Durham.

As graduates, they join a thriving, 230,000-strong alumni community worldwide, who inspire and, in many cases, support our current students.

The ceremonies were presided over by our Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O’Brien, and our Chancellor and renowned foreign affairs expert, Dr Fiona Hill, alongside senior University colleagues.

University student
It is always a privilege to welcome so many of our students and their loved ones to Durham Cathedral to celebrate the end of our students’ educational journey. These graduates should feel rightly proud of their achievements as they look forward to a new and exciting chapter in their lives. We wish them well and we know as Durham University graduates they will be highly sought after by employers worldwide.
