June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, which celebrates the work necessary, both past and present, to achieve justice and equality for members of the LGBT community. Professor Jennifer Ingleheart, from our Department of Classics and Ancient History, is an expert on the influence of ancient Rome on modern understandings of homosexuality.

We are delighted to have been nominated for University of the Year in The Queer Student Awards 2023.

Scientists have observed for the first time two million distant galaxies, quasars and stars that will help create the most detailed 3-D map of the Universe ever, which will further advance our understanding of the Universe and of our own galaxy, the Milky Way.

On 31 May 2023, we were very pleased to welcome colleagues from Wuhan University to Durham to meet with colleagues from our Science and Social Sciences and Health faculties. The visit builds on our renewed undergraduate and doctoral student exchange agreements and saw enthusiasm from both sides to deepen collaborations in education and research.

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Durham University Volunteering and Outreach (DUVO) Awards.  These annual awards celebrate the positive impact the work of our volunteers has on individuals, the community, and our partners. Many of our students and staff were recognised for the invaluable contribution they make to over 20 different projects.

A diverse group of international students, including participants from North America, China and India, have worked together to produce the latest exhibition on display at the Museum of Archaeology. ‘Throwing it Out There: The Archaeology of Ritual, Rivers and Rubbish’ will open on 15 June. The students have created this exhibition as part of their course, the MA Museum and Artefact Studies, in the Department of Archaeology.
