Research and Impact

The Centre has a larger interdisciplinary agenda that started to be formulated in the months following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The centre groups together distinctive research areas in contemporary Ukraine within the broader themes of social justice (migration and displacement, historical memory, religion and minority studies, postwar reconstruction, and societal recovery), environmental humanities (sustainable cities and renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and environmental efficiency, food supply) and sciences (crop environmental resilience, ecology and genetics) by developing interdisciplinary insights between humanities, sciences, social sciences and business. In the commitment to sustainable recovery of Ukraine researchers’ needs will be tied up with the necessities of societies within and beyond Ukraine. By bringing in the human element into reconstruction, the Centre contributes to the provision of historical and empirical evidence essential to analysing and modelling how post- war societies can be resilient, effective and develop in a sustainable way.
