SHAREing

We are delighted to announce that Durham University is leading a major new UK-wide initiative, SHAREing (Skills Hub for Accelerated Research Environments Inspiring the Next Generation), launched in support of the UKRI Compute Roadmap.

With £3.8 million in funding from the UKRI Digital Research Infrastructure Programme, SHAREing will build capacity, expertise and collaboration across advanced computing and artificial intelligence.

Under the leadership of Professor Tobias Weinzierl, the hub will bring together over 30 partners — including academic institutions, technology firms, and research organisations — to train and support Digital Research Technology Professionals (RTPs): PhD students, postdocs, software engineers, IT specialists and more. Through online learning, tailored professional development, and more, SHAREing aims to help researchers across disciplines make the most of high-performance computing and emerging tools, accelerating discovery.

The first round of the mini-project has now been launched. The project is divided into four main pillars:

  • Work Package 1: Performance Assessment
  • Work Package 2: Technical Training
  • Work Package 3: Professional Skills
  • Work Package 4: Outreach, stakeholder engagement and capacity building

Each of the work packages is divided into various sections, which are currently under development

Working Packages

Each Work Package is divided into mini-projects, some of which are already open. Find out more about them and contact the lead members of each project.

  • WP1: Performance Assessment

This working group identifies codes and systems that are accepted for SHAREing’s performance assessment exercises. The group ensures that SHAREing covers a wide variety of use cases and code and system characteristics.
    WP1 SHAREing
  • WP2: Technical Training

This group studies and gathers performance assessment methodologies. The collected expertise helps SHAREing’s assessments, but the group also works towards a unique SHAREing approach which can be rolled out at multiple compute centres in the UK.
    WP2 SHAREing
