Participant Instructions (see further down for general FAQs)
Nano Talk (2.5 minutes) and Poster / Idea Wall Summaries (1.0 minutes) Instructions
- Day of presentation: The UKADR Programme is available here (under programme), which details which session you have been assigned to and your abstract number (A## if on Thursday or B## if on Friday).
- Length of nano talks and poster / idea wall summaries: These oral sessions are designed to be fast paced. Your nano talk must therefore be no longer than 2.5 minutes and your poster / idea wall summary no longer than 1.0 minutes. We will use a bell to signal the end of your 2.5 minutes (for nano talks) and 1.0 minutes (for summaries) and raise a sheet of paper to indicate when you have 15 seconds left.
- Audience. These oral sessions are aimed at an interdisciplinary audience (please avoid jargon), and give everyone who wants to a chance to introduce themselves and their work.
- Slides. If you are using slides, there will not be time to upload presentation materials during or immediately before your session. We therefore ask that you please upload your materials to the link you were emailed (on 27 or 28 August 2025, from ukadr-2025@durham.ac.uk, titled "UKADR Presentation Upload and further information") at least 24 hours before your session begins so that we have time to organise the session materials.
- Logo: If you would like to use a conference UKADR logo, this can be downloaded here.
- Additional Information
- Your session will be moderated and timed by three volunteer chairs.
- Please keep in sight the chair who will be signalling your 15 seconds remaining time.
- After each set of 3 to 5 nanotalk presentations, there will be time for audience brief Q&A/comments.
- There will be no Q&A/comments time for poster / idea wall summaries, as there will be a dedicated session for viewing these poster / idea walls, with authors in attendance.
- The session chairs for these oral sessions will also be responsible for selecting a presenter for our ‘Outstanding Presentation’ Award (for nano talks, one per session), based on the presentation's engaging delivery, excellent structure (easy to follow, kept to time) and clearly defined motivation and approach.
Posters / Idea Walls Instructions
- Times: Thursday, 4 September. For all idea walls/posters with abstract code A##. Set up: Thursday 09:00–09:30. Viewing session (please be present): Thursday 11:40–12:30. Friday, 5 September. For all idea walls/posters with abstract code B##. Set up: Friday 08:30–09:00. Viewing session (please be present): Friday 10:40–11:30. Please set up your poster/idea wall in the allocated time slot and remove it at the end of the day.
- Poster Boards: The poster boards will be set up in landscape orientation. Each board has a felt area of 114 cm x 84 cm (with the border of the board a couple cm). Posters in A0 size (119 cm x 84 cm) will slightly exceed the felt area but will still fit well on the stand. For posters, landscape orientation is recommended (as it allows more people to view at once), but portrait posters are also possible, but will hang down 30 cm below the felt area if A0 (which looks fine). Posters and/or other pieces of paper you bring (e.g., A3/A4 for idea walls) will be attached to the felt using Velcro Tabs, which we will provide.
- Idea Walls: Standalone engagement sessions encouraging informal discussion and idea exchange. A less formal version of a poster—often a single-page or couple of pages of A4 or A3 size graphics, concept sketch, or visual statement of a key idea, challenge, or question—designed to provoke discussion or present an idea. These can be “concept board” rather than a full poster.
- If you require a table, please inform us (thank you to those who have already done so) at UKADR-2025@durham.ac.uk.
- Logo: If you would like to use a conference UKADR logo, this can be downloaded here.
- Outstanding visual impacts awards. There will be two selected for each poster / idea wall session. These will be presented at the final session on Friday.
