MJur candidate in the Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences) |
Biography
Overview
Alexander is a full time MJur candidate at Durham Law School. He completed his Bachelor of Law with Durham University in 2025, graduating with First Class Honours. Alexander’s main research interest concerns property law, especially the field governing familial property. Alexander's undergraduate research concerned a comparative analysis for reforming a niche area of property law; the Commonhold estate. In continuing his engagement with this field, Alexander has now steered his research towards cohabitation law. Alongside his current research, Alexander also volunteers in the local community as an Advisor for Citizens Advice, applying his academic experience through offering guidance in various areas such as familial relationships, housing and probate.
Current Research
Alexander's research is supervised by Professor Andy Hayward and Dr Dafni Lima. His research focuses on applying queer legal theory to assess the current legal protections available for cohabitants in England and Wales. His research proposes a novel means of approaching cohabitation law reform through a developing school of thought, analysing the law as it is now and seeking to address its contemporary impact on marginalised groups. He examines the current framework and sets out reforms on how best to optimise statutory intervention.
