MJur candidate in the Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences) |
Biography
Chris Baldi is a full-time MJur candidate at Durham Law School, researching the influence of neurolaw in criminal law. She graduated from Durham University with a first-class honours LLB in 2025. Her undergraduate dissertation evaluated the concept of mens rea against modern neuroscientific advancements, and proposed a medical evidence-based reform.
Alongside her MJur research, she is a Land Law tutor at Durham Law School, and a member of Durham CELLS (Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences), CCLCJ (Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Justice) and DIDRI (Durham International Dispute Resolution Institute).
Current Research
Supervised by Dr David Lawrence and Dr Jessie Blackbourn, Chris's MJur project focuses on the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR) in England and Wales. Her research considers whether the current MACR should be raised to reflect neuroscientific evidence of child development. With her project, she aims to build on existing academic discussions on MACR, developing guidelines for the successful integration of neuroscientific evidence in young offenders' criminal trials.
