Biography
Dorien has been an ESRC-funded Doctoral Research Student at Durham University since 2017. She holds an MSc in Arab World Studies from Durham University, an MSc in Middle East Politics from SOAS, London, and a BA in International Relations from the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). In between, she spent extended periods living and working in Cairo and Amman.
Her current research focuses on (failed) large-scale urban construction projects in Amman, and the intersection between national narratives, urban development, and notions of citizenship and community. This interdisciplinary project is co-supervised between the School of Government and the Geography Department at Durham.
