Biography

Helen is a PhD candidate and part time tutor in Law of Family Relationships at Durham Law School. Helen received a first class degree in Law from the University of Lincoln before going on to obtain an LLM from the University of Manchester. Helen started her PhD in 2019 and is funded by the Durham Law School Studentship.

Current Research

Supervised by Dr Andy Hayward and Professor Helen Fenwick, Helen’s research focuses on the legal position of cohabitants within England and Wales following the recent engagement with human rights. This project will use Re an application by Siobhan McLaughlin for Judicial Review (NI) [2018] UKSC 48to establish what impact the judicial methodology and the application of human rights will have on cohabitants and their access to legal protections in social security, on the breakdown of a relationship and the death of a partner.
