Biography
My academic career has developed along two main strands. One is teaching and research in Hispanic literature and cultural studies; the other is modern foreign languages teaching and learning, which I have been working on since 1995.
I first came to Durham in 2003 with a four-year research grant from Institut Ramon Llull. Between then and 2007, I completed my doctoral thesis on Occitan and Catalan medieval literature. This research was the basis of my monograph Ausiàs March, les dones i l’amor (2009). I also designed and established the Catalan language and culture modules that have continued to run successfully until today at the School of Modern Languages.
Before coming back to Durham in 2013, I was associate lecturer in medieval Romance studies at the University of Barcelona. I also worked as an instructional designer in the development of the online Catalan language course parla.cat, and completed a master's degree in teaching methodologies in higher education.
In my role as UNILANG Lead Examiner (2015-2019), I have been invited to deliver presentations and workshops for university teachers across the UK, and I have created training materials to guide examiners in the application of the scheme.
