Mr Michel Thill
Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Peacebuilding
|Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Peacebuilding in the School of Government and International Affairs|
I am a researcher and freelance consultant specializing in the Democratic Republic of Congo. My interests encompass everyday security, governance and the urban. My PhD explored the state in the Democratic Republic of Congo through a comprehensive, fieldwork-based case-study of the police, their everyday work and their reform.
At Durham University, I work as a part-time Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in a AHRC/FCDO-funded project entitled 'Peacekeepers as Soldiers and Humanitarians'. Led by Prof. Jutta Bakonyi, the project explores and compares experiences of military peacekeepers and those of civilians and humanitarian actors who are on the receiver side of peacekeeper’s protection mandate in Somalia and DR Congo. Together with a Congolese research partner, my main responsibility is to oversee and conduct research in Congo's North Kivu province.
