Staff profile

I have an MA in Translation Studies from Durham University and a BA in English Language and Literature from Birzeit University, Palestine. Before starting my PhD, I worked as a translator (Arabic<>English) between 2015-2016, and as an instructor at Birzeit University during 2018.

My research explores the role translation plays in the (re)construction and (re)mediation of cultural and collective memory, focusing on Palestinian memory. It will approach interlingual, intralingual, and intersemiotic translation from the perspective of memory studies. I will analyse a variety of case studies including graphic novels, anthologies of translated literature, animated documentaries, sculptures, and oral testimonies. This interdisciplinary project positions the Palestinian issue within the emerging debate on translation and memory, opening up Palestinian memory and identity to new readings. It aims to reveals the multifaceted ways in which translation serves as a vehicle of collective and cultural memory and contributes to pushing research on intersemiotic translation into new directions.
