Will is studying towards a Master of Jurisprudence (MJur) at Durham Law School, where he has been awarded an MJur Studentship. He holds a First Class LLB from Durham Law School. Will has a keen interest in Employment Law, and in particular in how technology is influencing the contemporary labour market. Will’s research for his MJur thesis is inspired by this interest.

Outside of the Law School, Will works as a College Mentor at Josephine Butler College. He was also recently elected onto Josephine Butler College’s Middle Common Room Executive Committee. Will was previously the Assistant Team Captain of Durham University’s Ballroom and Latin Dance Team. In February 2020, Will and his dance partner Rachael achieved 3rd place at the Inter Varsity Dance Competition National Championships.

Current Research

Will’s research centres on the protection of workers within the rapidly growing ‘gig economy’. In particular, Will focuses on the legal regulation of online platform work. His research highlights the grey area between employment and self-employment into which platform workers fall and how this impacts their access to basic protections. The aim of the thesis is to challenge the existing legal landscape on the protection of platform workers by making the case for specific regulation of platform work.
