On the announcement of The King’s Birthday Honours List 2024, we would like to congratulate and celebrate the fantastic achievements of the alumni, staff, students and friends who have been honoured.

Those who receive this honour represent the inspiration and leadership that characterises a large part of our Durham community from all over the world.

Amongst those honoured are Professor of Geography and Deputy Executive Dean at Durham University, Professor Harriet Bulkeley, Carol Preston who has been a beaver leader with the 82nd Newcastle Scouts for the last 30 years and Patrick Melia - Chief Executive at Sunderland City Council.

Renowned choral composer John Rutter receives a knighthood for services to music. He was previously given a CBE in 2007.
