Hatfield Trust

Established in 1987, the Hatfield Trust provides financial support for the College community, funding a range of schemes including bursaries, scholarships, awards and grants. We want to help Hatfielders and Hatfield 'be the best they/it can be'. To do this, the Trust relies on the generosity of alumni and friends to whom we are very grateful for the financial contributions, however big or small.

The work of the Trust is to further the following areas outlined in our strategic aims:

  • Nurturing student development through supporting activities such as internships, engagement in national and international events, volunteering, and individual training and development projects
  • Developing college facilities and grounds to provide excellent spaces and equipment, and support students in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sport, art, music and theatre
  • Supporting an inclusive community by enabling students from all backgrounds to engage in core Hatfield experiences such as joining the JCR, participating in clubs and societies, and going to the Lion in Winter Ball
  • Hardship funds are available to support students to overcome a difficult period or when their circumstances change unexpectedly

The Trust also supports specific Funds continuing in line with our aims.

To celebrate 30 years since the first admission of female students to Hatfield, the Lioness Fund was launched in 2018. The Lioness Fund enabled us to commission a Lioness sculpture to complement the Lion sculpture currently in the dining hall and launch the Lioness Scholarship to support a female student from a developing country, where access to higher education for women is limited, to undertake a single year masters degree at Hatfield College.

In 2021, the Trust launched the 175 Fund in celebration of our 175th Anniversary to support and extend our bursaries and scholarships schemes, enabling more students to experience everything Hatfield has to offer in line with our #AllOneHatfield ethos.

The 1846 Club

Hatfield College was founded in 1846. Since then, thousands of students have become lifelong Hatfielders, remaining part of our unique college community.

The 1846 Club has been launched so that Hatfielders can continue to make an impact on the life of the college through regular giving to the Hatfield Trust. By pledging to give £18.46 annually, quarterly, or monthly, you will ensure that Hatfield can provide extra opportunities and experiences for our students, enabling them to gain the most out of their time at university, and to prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world long after they graduate.

There are four tiers of support: Member, Partner, Guardian, and Patron. Each tier comes with different benefits to donors to thank you for your generous support. Simply choose below which level of support you would like to pledge to the Trust and you will make a real difference to the lives of current and future generations of Hatfield students.
