Sports students with Steve Cram on an athletic track

This July will see the return of Durham City Run Festival. Once again we’ll be supporting the event as a major partner. The festival will take place on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 July, with events throughout the city and at our venues. With the return of the popular Durham City Run 10K and 5K races, along with the Run Like a Legend Mile, and Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track.

Committed to sport, physical activity and culture

We offer an exceptional Wider Student Experience, including student enrichment activities and high quality student support. Our staff and students have outstanding opportunities to participate, excel or simply try something new across a range of areas including intellectual enquiry, civic and global engagement, the visual and performing arts, sport and physical activity, volunteering, employment and enterprise.

We are one of the UK’s top universities for sport and physical activity. Durham is currently Britain’s number 1 team sport university and is also very proud to have the largest participation rate of any University in the U.K. This includes 700 college teams competing weekly across 18 sports. Over 10,000 members of our local community also use our facilities each year and we continue to play an important role in supporting sport and physical activity within the city, the county and beyond.

We are also a key member of the Culture Durham Partnership supporting County Durham’s bid to be UK City of Culture 2025.

As well as Durham City Run Festival, we also support popular events including Lumiere, Durham Book Festival, Durham Fringe Festival and the Summer in the City festival.

Quentin Sloper, director of student enrichment at Durham University, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Events of the North once again and we have some exciting plans to grow the event together. We are very much looking forward to announcing more of this year’s programme, which we’re confident will make the Durham City Run Festival even more of a hit with local residents, visitors and our students, as the date approaches.”
