Winter congregation 6.1.23

Two days of blissful celebration at Durham Cathedral has drawn to a close for our Winter Congregation.

More than 1,500 students from 120 countries have celebrated the completion of their degrees at Winter Congregation, reflecting on the time spent at the University and in Durham, and looking to the future.

An occasion like no other

Six ceremonies were held at the magnificent Durham Cathedral for our Winter Congregation where we celebrated the successes and achievements of this year’s cohort of graduates.

We also welcomed students whose graduation was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrate their achievements.

Claire Malcolm

We have had the pleasure of honouring the exceptional work of Claire Malcolm MBE.

Claire received special recognition for her excellent work with the Durham Book Festival and was awarded an Honorary Degree.

We’re extremely proud of our graduates and know that they’ll go on to achieve outstanding things around the world, acting as wonderful ambassadors for our University, our city and the region.

Words of wisdom

For our graduates and their loved ones, Congregation is an occasion to unite and rejoice in their great accomplishments and celebrate reaching this important milestone.

Our graduates took the opportunity to share some advice from their time at Durham.

One student said - “Enjoy every moment because it goes quicker than you think” while another student shared - “Engage in sport it’s important for your mental health.”

One we liked the most, said – “Keep looking up proudly, you are a Durham graduate.”

A new beginning

Our graduates will be continuing their journeys and looking towards the future, with some taking on further studies and some moving on to employment.

Whichever path our graduates choose, we know they will be highly sought after by global employers and institutions.

We wish all of our graduates all the best for future and trust they will maintain close links with us here at Durham.
