Partners being awarded for social value project

County Durham Pound, a regional partnership of which we’re part, has been announced as winner of the Best Public Sector Project award at the 2023 Social Value Conference.

The award, for a public sector organisation that has commissioned or procured a single project or framework and maximised the delivery of social value, was announced at a ceremony in London.

The County Durham Pound project involves several partner organisations committed to working together to maximise social, economic and environmental value throughout the county. This could be via procurement decisions and the way our suppliers are selected; how we operate as responsible and ethical employers; or, how our grant funding is allocated.

We’re one of 12 companies who have committed their support to this project through creating more jobs for local people, reducing the county's impact on the environment, and supporting meaningful training and upskilling.

The other companies are:

  • Durham County Council and its business support service Business Durham;
  • Durham Constabulary, Durham Constabulary and Durham Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office
  • Northumbrian Water
  • Believe Housing, Karbon Homes; Livin and Bernicia
  • New College Durham and the Bishop Chadwick Education Trust.

The project has allowed us to learn from partners’ experiences and take a joined-up approach to social value in our supply chain.

The Social Value Conference is the leading not-for-profit Social Value event, bringing together experts and practitioners from the public, private and third sectors. The goal of the conference was to facilitate sharing best practices and innovative ideas for Social Value and discuss how organisations across sectors can do ‘good business’.
