Fusion Diagnostics

CfAI contributes to the national and international efforts to generate
clean energy via fusion reactions of hydrogen isotopes. The contribution
takes the form of the development of advanced optical and neutron
diagnostics for MAST Upgrade, the UK flagship national fusion facility.
These diagnostics enables the optimization of the operational regimes of
MAST Upgrade by providing key physics information on the plasma
scenarios and heating mechanisms. The ultimate goal is to provide a
better understanding of the underlying physical processing governing a
fusion reactor and thus its design.
