Durham Law School is pleased to partner with the JusTN0W Initiative Team, colleagues from the Durham Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy, the School of Law at the City University of Hong Kong, and the School of Law at Texas A&M University to host the conference on 'International Conference on IP and AI in the Age of Technology Race' in Durham, United Kingdom.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping industries, economies, and legal frameworks, driving nations into a competitive technology race. Intellectual Property (IP) law regulates AI-driven innovation, promotes technological progress, and ensures equitable access to its benefits. While much of the current discussion on IP and AI is informed by Western perspectives, emerging insights from Asia and other regions deserve further exploration. This conference aimed at broadening the conversation by integrating diverse global and regional viewpoints, examining how different jurisdictions address the evolving challenges and opportunities in the AI landscape.

We were delighted to welcome participants to the International Conference on IP and AI in the Age of Technology Race, held at Durham Law School on 19–20 May 2025. This event serves as a dynamic platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and intellectual property law, bringing together leading academics and practitioners from around the world.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of Durham Sustainable Development Law and Policy, whose contribution has been key to shaping the conference agenda and its broader impact. We also extend our sincere thanks to our valued partners at City University of Hong Kong and Texas A&M University for their collaboration and institutional support. Their engagement has significantly enriched the scope and depth of this international academic initiative. Together, we aim to foster innovative, forward-thinking discussions that address the legal, ethical, and regulatory challenges posed by AI and to explore how intellectual property frameworks can evolve in response to technological advancement and global sustainability goals.
Please feel free to contact Dr Jia Wang for further engagement with this topic.
