Narrative Practices Lab: Connecting Durham University researchers engaged in narrative research on health

As part of the Discovery Research Platform for Medical Humanities, the Narrative Practices Lab led by Laura Mazzoli Smith and Veronica Heney would like to connect with Durham University researchers who are working in the field of narrative and health.

We are reaching out to colleagues from different disciplines and at different career stages to help us think about how the Lab can best support and foster work in the areas of narrative research and storytelling and bring together Durham University researchers working in this field.

There are two different ways you can connect with us:

1) Narrative Research Survey

Earlier this year we invited colleagues working with narrative to tell us about their research and collaboration goals. Thank you again to everyone who has already responded! If you have not yet had a chance to take part, we warmly invite you to complete our Narrative Research Survey, which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

2) Narrative Practices Across the University: An experimental workshop on health and narrative methods at Durham

Wednesday 18 October 2023, 1pm-5pm, Durham University (Lower Mountjoy – venue tbc). Light refreshments will be provided.

This workshop will be an opportunity for colleagues across the University to come together to share their research on narrative and health, as well ideas about how the Narrative Practices Lab can support ongoing research and collaborations. We will also be working with Mary Robson (Creative Facilitator, Institute for Medical Humanities) to explore how we might collectively develop the potential of the Narrative Practices Lab.

Participants at the workshop will be invited to discuss experiences of narrative research, what they are hoping to develop, and their hopes around how the Narrative Practices Lab as a new space in Durham for work in this field might support them.

We want this to be a relaxed workshop and we are open to alternative and accessible forms of presenting and sharing, such as prerecorded talks and a Padlet for pre- and post-session interactions.

Please note that spaces on this workshop are limited. If you would like to take part, please first complete our Narrative Research Survey and then fill in our Narrative Practices Workshop: Expression of Interest Form by Monday 25 September 2023.

We will confirm whether you have a place on the workshop by Friday 29 September.
