Of interest to students and researchers of bioethics, medical law and biolaw, Professor Rebecca Bennett will present her research on the policy around IVF treatment and disability screening based on the concerns around the welfare of future children.

Research Questions

This event will address the following research questions:

  • What does the law require when it comes to screening and access to IVF?

  • Are the restrictions placed on fertility treatment ethically defensible?

  • What limits, if any, should be placed on IVF and screening practices?

  • Should we attempt to evaluate the potential parenting ability of those seeking access to fertility treatment?

  • Are we justified in restricting access in certain cases, for example in relation to disabled individuals or people with past criminal convictions?
