Violence, Trauma and Memory

Leads: Katrin Wehling-Giorgi (Modern Languages and Cultures) and Corinne Saunders (English Studies)

How do violence, trauma, and memory shape our understanding of the human condition across time, culture, and experience? How might the embodied and affective legacies of violence, trauma and memory —political, medical, personal or collective —be better understood through interdisciplinary inquiry?

Foregrounding experiences that challenge binary distinctions between the normal and pathological, research in this strand sheds light on how we understand violence, trauma and memory’s impact on collective cultural narratives and embodied experience across different historical periods and within different disciplinary contexts.
