Durham Creative Writing Graduate Poets Showcase

Join five recent award-winning poets and Durham University graduates as they read from their debut pamphlets and discuss the world of publishing, poetry and life after Durham. 

Featuring: Fahad Al-Amoudi, Beth Davies, Kym Deyn, Chloe Elliott and Prerana Kumar

Fahad Al-Amoudi is a writer and editor. He is the winner of the White Review Poets Prize 2022 and has been shortlisted for the Brunel International African Poets Prize. His work appears in The Poetry Review, Wasafiri and Mizna. His debut pamphlet, when the flies come, is published by ignitionpress. 

Beth Davies's debut pamphlet, The Pretence of Understanding, is published by The Poetry Business. As well as being a winner of the 2022 New Poets Prize, she was awarded second place in both the 2022 Magdalena Young Poets’ Prize and the 2021 Dead Cat Poetry Prize. Her work has been published in Poetry Wales, Atrium, Rust + Moth, and The Kindling, as well as in anthologies including Candlestick Press’ Ten Poems about Flowers and Valley Press’ Verse Matters.

Kym Deyn is a writer and editor. Their pamphlets include Nine Arches’ Primers Vol. 6., Dionysia published by Verve Poetry Press, and Unfurl, a collaborative fiction experiment. They have been widely published in anthologies and journals  for their poetry and prose, including Butcher’s Dog and Strange Horizons. They run The Braag CIC, a poetry and speculative fiction press. 

Chloe Elliott is a writer based in York. She is a winner of the 2022 New Poets Prize for her debut pamphlet Encyclopaedia, out now. In 2020, she won the Gold Creative Future Writers’ Award. Her writing features in Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal, bath magg, berlin lit, Bedtime Stories for the End of the World, Magma, The North, Strix amongst others. Her micro-chapbook Dream Simulation is forthcoming with The Braag in Winter 2023. She currently works for Aesthetica and is the Creative Apprentice for Modern Poetry in Translation.

Prerana Kumar (they/them) are an Indian writer based in London. They hold an MA in Creative Writing from UEA and won Rebecca Swift Foundation’s Women Poet’s Prize 2022. They were also shortlisted for The White Review Poet’s Prize 2022. Their work appears in The Telegraph, Magma, The White Review, Prototype and bath magg among others. Their debut pamphlet, Ixora is out with Guillemot Press. They are currently pursuing a LAHP funded PhD at QMUL.
