Biography

Aida is a Northern Bridge Consortium Scholar, whose research focuses on the history of constitution-making in Sudan, where she looks at the role that different actors, policies, and events have played in constitutional development and negotiations since 1956. More broadly, she is interested in Sudanese political history and racialised and gendered discourses in Sudan. She is also a Research Assistant for the LSE Middle East Centre’s project ‘Understanding the Barriers and Enablers to Women’s Leadership in Sudan.' 

Prior to joining Durham, Aida was a Social Policy Officer at the Economic Policy Research Institute, where she supported the Government of Sudan and partners in the development of a social protection strategy for the country. She holds an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge and a BA in History and International Relations from King’s College London. She is fluent in English and Arabic.
