Mr Andrew Mckay
Assistant Professor (Teaching)
|Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD)|
I started teaching at Durham in June 2012 on the summer Pre-sessional programme and then joined the Year-round Pre-sessional staff. I teach various courses on the In-sessional programme and also give one to one consultations to students.
I have been teaching English since 1998 and have taught in Spain, Cuba, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. I began teaching English for Academic Purposes whilst in Thailand and subsequently spent seven years teaching EAP at a technical university in Saudi Arabia during which period I completed my MA TESOL. I also speng two years as an examiner for the British Council assessing the speaking and writing components of the IELTS test.
My own academic interests are primarily in the social sciences and humanities. Within the field of EAP I am particularly interested in techniques which endeavour to increase student motivation and promote critical thinking.
