Biography

Chao Joined Durham in 2020 as an Assistant Professor in Finance after he finished his Ph.D. and spent three years as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance at ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, the University of Reading. Chao holds a BA. and an LL.M. degree in Law from the Renmin University of China and the Chinese Academy of Social Science, respectively. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Chao’s research interests lie mainly in the area of empirical corporate finance, with focuses on the topics of cross-broader mergers and acquisitions, institutional investors, corporate cash policies, corporate social responsibility, and real effects of derivatives trading. His works have been published in a variety of peer-reviewed ABS 4/3 journals, such as Journal of Corporate Finance, European Financial Management, International Review of Finance analysis, European Journal of Finance, and Journal of International Financial markets, Institutions & Money. Chao has also been invited to present his work at more than 20 different conferences and university seminars worldwide.

Chao has a wide range of teaching interests and has taught various modules, such as Introductory Economics, Financial Economics, Portfolio Management, and Financial Risk management in the past few years. He is also actively supervising Ph.D. students with research interests in the corporate finance area. 

Mini Biography

Chao Joined Durham in 2020 as an Assistant Professor in Finance. Before taking his role in Durham, he was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance at ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, University of Reading.
